During the summertime, I love grilling… Good healthy Gourmet Hot Dogs…Not your average beef dog but delicious chicken basil sausage, spicy italian chicken sausage, sweet apple chicken sausage and if I do a traditional hot dog it’s uncured all beef, all of them purchased from my favorite store Trader Joe’s.
The hot dog is a classic American food, but even old favorites can stand a makeover every now and then. Whether you’re headed to a party or grilling out back, these recipes will take your hot dog to the next level of awesome.
Over the long 4th of July weekend, it was my chance to get creative with the kids and try to come up with all sorts of fun new twists to create the perfect hot dog. For me, Gourmet Hot Dogs aren’t just a fad, they’re a passion. Putting a new twist on all old classic. I went way beyond ketchup, mustard and even beyond the standard chili dog.
Creativity is a MUST!

Author: Alison Ball
8 chicken turkey or uncured all-beef hot dogs
8 hot dog buns split
1 cup chopped red onion
1 thinly sliced jalapeños
1 cup chopped tomato
shredded cheese of choice
1 cup relish
2 or 3 small dill pickles quartered lengthwise
Prepare a medium-hot fire in a grill. Brush and oil the grill grate.
Grill the hot dogs directly over medium-high heat, turning often, until lightly charred and plump, about 5 minutes total. Move the hot dogs to indirect heat. Brush the insides of the rolls with melted butter or olive oil and grill, cut sides down, until lightly toasted, about 1 minute. Turn the rolls over and grill for about 30 seconds more.
Serve each hot dog on a roll with equal amounts of the onion, jalapeños, cheese, relish, mayo, mustard and dill pickle spears.
